Peach Simple Syrup

Oh, friends, this is so easy. If you’re a fan of the peach Torani syrup common in hip coffee houses, you are going to love this.

This peach syrup recipe is ready to use in a little more than an hour. (Most of that is just cooling time, so you’ll need to put very little effort into this!)

Ingredients

Peaches — Fresh peaches are perhaps the perfect early summer fruit. Choose a variety that’s available to you locally for the best flavor.

Sugar Use your favorite brand of granulated cane sugar. I prefer organic, as it allows me to avoid GMO ingredients or those that have been dried down with glyphosate.

Making it

To make this peach simple syrup, start by thoroughly washing the peaches. Peeling the peaches is not necessary, but you’ll see a color differential based on whether or not you choose to peel the peaches. Leaving the skins on results in a somewhat pink syrup; remove skins for a more yellow/orange finished product.

Remove the pits and chop the peaches into chunks. Combine the chopped peaches with the water and sugar in a saucepan.

Simmer for five minutes, then remove from heat and allow mixture to sit for about an hour.

Strain cooked peaches over a measuring cup or small bowl. Retain the peaches for use in another recipe. (They’re great over ice cream!)

Transfer the finished peach simple syrup to a bottle or jar with a sealable lid and refrigerate.

Cooling Time: 1 hour
Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 cups peaches, chopped
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

    1. Combine peaches, sugar, and water in a saucepan.
    2. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook for 5 minutes. Slightly mashing the fruit while it is cooking can release some of the flavor, but will also result in a slightly cloudier end product. If you want a nice clear syrup, don't mash the fruit.
    3. Remove from heat and allow to steep for 1 hour.
    4. Strain peaches through a fine mesh strainer.
    5. Transfer the finished syrup to a bottle or jar with a sealable lid.
